This is my very own recipe for Chilli! Now that it’s getting colder out (at least up here in the great white north) it’s totally time to start thinking of ‘winter food’! I always thought chilli was this secret/difficult dish (people make such a big deal about it) and I thought it was going to be hard. My skills aren’t the best so I always put it off as being out of my skill set! My friend one day let me in on the secret and now we don’t go a few weeks in the fall and winter without it!
There isn’t a recipe to link to because it’s my own little made up dinner!
Ingredients:
- 1 can of every bean you like, if you only like kidney beans then you’ll want to get a couple cans!
- 1 can tomato paste
- 1 can beans in tomato sauce
- 1 big can diced tomatoes
- 1lb ground beef
- 1 jar spaghetti sauce (or any pasta sauce really)
- some garlic
- 1 green pepper diced (and other peppers if you like them)
- 1 package of sliced mushrooms
- chilli powder
- any other vegetables you want to dice up and throw in the sauce!
First step is to dice up all your veggies, and the garlic, and throw them in a big pot with a little butter until they are soft. Then add the ground beef. Once the ground beef is cooked go ahead and add all your beans, diced tomatoes and the tomato paste. After it’s all mixed up in the pot I add the spaghetti sauce and let it sit and simmer until the beans are cooked. The last thing to be added is the chilli powder (or cayenne if you like it hot), at this point really it’s entirely up to you. How spicy you want this to be is your choice!
Easy right? Right! Almost too easy, but there it is! Gather all the stuff, put it in the pot and cook it! You could also slow cooker this meal too I would imagine, I’d likely cook the ground beef before putting it in the slower cooker though, but that’s because meat scares me sometimes and I’d want to make sure it’s super cooked!
Happy eating!
