Wreckage by Emily Bleeker

I did not hate all of Wreckage. In fact, I honestly enjoyed the majority of it. That is, until the ending. Emily Bleeker has created an ending to infuriate me like no ending before it. I have read some bad books in my time, and I have been angered to the point of tossing at least one particularly offensive book in the toilet. Nevertheless, Ms. Bleeker ignited an internal rage that I hope to never again experience. Spoilers ahead, but trust me, it’s for your own good.

Wreckage is the tale of Lillian Linden and Dave Hall. The two survived a horrific plane crash, only to be stranded on an isolated island for two years before being rescued and returned to polite society. Obviously, these two slept together, but it meant more to Dave than Lillian, who is more than eager to return to life with her hubby and two kids while pretending this whole thing never happened. Except Dave knocked her up on the island, where she had a baby boy that only survived for a few months. The two fabricate a story claiming that Lillian had been impregnated by her husband prior to the crash. Lillian’s husband figures out the truth and is FINE with it. He also figures out that Lillian DONATED HER EGGS so that Dave’s wife can have a baby, as she was infertile. Lillian’s husband is also ok with this. In fact, he encourages her to VISIT WITH DAVE AND HIS WIFE AND BABY as the baby is the direct sibling of the dead island baby. No human being reacts so nonchalantly to being lied to for the better part of a year.

I’m not even going to justify this with a rant. Wreckage was hideous, and if you’re looking for a more realistically crafted plane crash story, you should just watch Lost.
