Back to desserts! ‘Cus Christmas and stuff! This is another recipe that goes under many different names, hello dolly bars, magic cookie bars, 7 layer bars and I’m sure there are more! I’ve never made them before this, but I’ve always looked at them and wished I had the recipe! So here it is!
Where I got the recipe: Hello Dolly Bars
- 1.5 C graham cracker crumbs
- 1/2 C butter
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 1/3 C of shredded coconut
- 1 C chocolate chips
- 1 C butterscotch chips (or use 2 chocolate, or 1 white)
- 1 C chopped nuts ( recipes seem to bounce between pecans and walnuts) walnuts are what I had on hand so that’s what I used!
Mix up the butter and graham crackers, I melted the butter because it makes it easier, and then press into the bottom of a 9×13″ pan. At this point there is a bit of an internet argument happening…… does the sweetened condensed milk go on top of the crust or is it poured on top at the end? After reading the arguments for both I decided to go with on top of everything! If you don’t want to do that you can pour the milk over the crust now. I sprinkled the nuts, some chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, shredded coconut all in layers over the crust and then poured the milk over everything.
After that it’s into the oven at 350F for 20-25 mins, after 20 mins the bottom looked done and the top looked a little soggy, so I decided to just broil the top “a bit”, well I kinda burnt the top! So I might not recommend that or at least keep at close eye on it! Either way it still tasted amazing and my family had the whole pan gone fast!
