December Book Photo Challenge – Day 10: Frustrating Read

Day 10 of the new challenge from Books and Cupcakes where we will be focusing on children’s books! When I was young I loved “choose your own adventure” type books, particularly the Steve Jackson/Ian Livingstone Fighting Fantasy series. But sometimes I tired of the fantasy genre and wanted something with a more modern spin. So I remember being thrilled when I discovered Ice Dancer (Book 5 in the Starlight Adventure series) – a choose your own adventure book with a difference. You play an ice dancer trying to win gold at the Olympics. I loved this book. There are so many fun choices to be made – which partner would be best for you, which trainer will get the best out of you both, which outfit will dazzle the judges etc. But oh it’s frustrating too. The wrong choice (however innocuous it seems at the time) can have a dramatic effect on your luck score which in turn can end up affecting your end result at the Olympics  and your chance of gold. But it’s a great read and a lot of fun to escape into the ice skating world and pretend (in my case anyway!) that I’m some super talented ice skater who had a real chance of gold if only I hadn’t made that really bad choice on page 30!
