Red White and Blue
I know you’re all waiting to see Fourth of July goodies, but I’m in Paris for ten days (six more!) for the first time in my life, and I want to share with everyone the book that is helping me stay grounded and relaxed while I’m here!
I will admit, I haven’t had a whole lot of time to read while I’m here, as I’m trying to soak in all that France has to offer me, for as minimal the price tag as possible!
One of my all time favourite authors is Jules Verne. What more fitting author for me to be in Paris with, than someone so deliciously wonderful at word play?
Would it be 20,000 Leagues under the Sea?
Or possibly Journey to the Centre of the Earth?
Which one do I love more?
I honestly can’t tell you from day to day, as they are always changing.
I’ll let you in on a bit of a secret: I LOVE STEAMPUNK. And this man gives me steampunk nerdgasms. #trueistrue
I’m going to go with today’s favourite though, which is JttCotE – Journey to the Centre of the Earth. Yup, that movie that has been remade more times than you can shake a stick at, has a young Peeta, and a remake I believe that has the Rock, Dwayne Johnson in it. (Mistress loves him, just be nice and don’t say mean things about The Rock!!!)
Journey is captivating. It’s young, foolishly and deceivingly deep (pun intended!) in it’s simplistic form, but it’s never going to let you relax in your chair. Silly you for thinking that you can get away with something like that! DIVE IN, head first (oh wait, I’m doing Journey, not the Sea… pfft, let’s just go with that metaphor anyway!), and get wrapped up in the story, the seemingly generalized and tropic kinds of characters (that weren’t tropic when Mr. V made them, as he was emulated and copied for decades and generations to come because of his easy style of incorporating rich vibrant brush strokes of character creation with a simple turn or phrase.)
Journey – in book form – gives you a chance to see a bond of reader and writer form and develop and he gently takes your hand and jumps into the lava pits with you, telling you it’s completely fine, we’re good… we’re good… just keep swimming…dammit I did it again! Well, before Dory takes over and drags me to the Sea, I’ll bid you adieu and hope you have a lovely day!
GO READ A BOOK!!!
