Hello everyone and welcome to week 5 in the quest of a few internet friends who are trying to get healthy! We want to motivate one another and help each other get on the right track by working out, eating right, and reaching a great state of mind in the process. Hi all! So last week I barely, I mean maybe once or twice, worked out! I was so bad! But now I am two nights back into the workout program and I hate myself for not pushing last week or the week before. It almost feels like I am starting over, but at least I am trying!! What is funny is that last week I lost the most weight. I was eating pretty well, there were a few days that I was over my calories, but other than that I stayed within my limits and I was loosing a good amount of weight! It was even a stressful week with car shopping and work craziness.
This week is back to basics work out week for me. I am still doing the 30 Day Shred, but I have also been trying to throw the elliptical in there so that I can get some more calorie burn. What do you think the best rotation is for strength verses cardio? It seems like it is so hard to find the balance. Good luck to all this week!

In some kind of miracle I managed to keep my weight the same and even drop half an inch in my waist! I was doing amazing before the weekend hit, but then the last of the birthday parties happened and it was a weekend filled with chips and cake and not much else! I think I may have had a salad once the entire weekend! It was so bad, and I felt it! The sugar rushes were almost immediate with the cake. Back on the wagon as of Monday morning, so hopefully by the time this posts the weight is going in the down direction again!

I haven’t updated everyone for awhile, but I will say that last week, snow took the place of regular workout as my husband and I spent 3+ hours digging ourselves out. Besides that, in my quest for healthy foods, I neglected to take into account acidity and had to rethink the diet a little bit. However, I’ve been keeping up with exercise and am currently down four pounds since Christmas. Also I’ve been good about staying away from snacks at work and home- now that the house is out of Christmas cookies, it got a bit easier. Anyways- keeping with it and upping the intensity of the workout, but haven’t been able to move from five pound weights yet. Maybe in a week or two.
Still no change on scales but probably this week I should be grateful for that as I had a rather wild weekend. I will just say cheese and bacon pastries followed by profiteroles and we’ll say no more on the subject. I’ve also switched over to Weight Watchers – the healthy & filling option – just to see if that works out better for me. It allows tortillas & crumpets and I’m a bread lover. I’ve cut down on the rice & pasta I was eating as it was making me feel sluggish & bloated. Leg twitches/spasms are as bad as ever & that’s getting me down if I’m honest. The medication I take makes me sleepy and I seem to need to take that earlier and earlier these days. Did some swimming on the weekend but can’t really count it as exercise – mostly spent time playing with daughter & ensuring she didn’t throw herself into the deep end. Really hoping for a weight loss at some point this week and I am weighing daily to catch it when it happens 🙂

This past week was an enormous success workout-wise, and an enormous failure in terms of eating. I ran 48 miles total last week and 19 miles so far this week, taking me to a grand total of 205.56 for the year. I was beating myself up a bit for not hitting the 200 mark by the end of January, but I was physically exhausted and needed a rest.
So all of that running did not have a positive effect on my appetite. I have been intensely craving carbs, and not the good kind. Is there a good kind? I don’t know, but if there is, I haven’t been eating it. On Thursday, for instance, I ran 13.1 miles. This was mainly because I was finally about to finish Gilmore Girls on Netflix so I just kept going, but then I was so darn close to the half marathon that I just had to go for it. Anyways, after achieving this massive victory, I had a healthy day. I ate an egg white wrap for lunch, snacked on a banana, munched on some wheat toast. It was idyllic and beautiful. And then my kid went to bed. There was frozen pizza in my fridge, and I thought to myself, ” I earned it, and I need the carbs.” So I ate half of it. Then I ate two bags of M&Ms, thinking, “I earned it, and I need the carbs.” Are there carbs in M&Ms? Probably not. Anyway, this was pretty much par for the course for the week. I don’t even particularly like pizza, but I have been eating loads of it. I wish it was summer, I tend to eat better in the summer. Winter just makes me want to hibernate Sandy the Squirrel style.
