I came across a Facebook advertisement from Tenderflake with some super sweet heart shaped flakies you can make at home, and since Valentine’s Day was fast approaching I thought it might be an easy thing to throw together for us! My mom had given me some heart shaped cookie cutters for Christmas and now was the time to put them to use!
Original Link: Tenderflake Hearts
- Tenderflake® Puff Pastry, thawed
- 1 Egg yolk
- 1 tbsp (15 mL) Water
- 2 tbsp (30 mL) Coarse sugar
- 1/2 cup (125 mL) Chopped dark chocolate
- 1/2 cup (125 mL) 35% Whipping cream
- 1 tbsp (15 mL) Confectioner’s sugar
- 1 tsp (5 mL) Pure vanilla extract
- 16 Strawberries, sliced
Now I was running out of time seriously fast, and the price of whipping cream is insane, so I purchased whipped cream already done up and skipped the entire icing sugar, whipping cream and vanilla part! The rest, super fast! Roll out each of your pastry dough with a little flour into a 10 x 10 square. Use a 2.5 (ish) heart cookie cutter to make 8 hearts in each pastry dough chunk. Brush each one with an egg wash and sprinkle with the coarse sugar. Bake at 400F for about 15 mins until they are golden. Let them cool completely! Microwave and stir the chocolate until liquid and smooth. Using a serrated knife slice the hearts in half crosswise so you have a top and bottom for each heart. Drizzle a little of your melted chocolate in each bottom heart. Add some whipped cream and sliced strawberries, drizzle a little more chocolate and then top with the lid of the heart! You can leave them in the fridge until you are ready to eat them, needless to say they didn’t make it that far, and there were no left overs! *POOF* gone. Success!
